Sonovia's Story

Sonovia has been a patient at Cahaba Valley Health Care (CVHC) for several years. She came to CVHC through a referral from her primary care physician at Cooper Green Hospital. She had been dealing with multiple health issues, which left her teeth brittle, weak, and prone to damage. Several of her teeth were chipped, she had cavities, and she was in constant pain. On top of the pain, she shared with us that people on social media had made hurtful comments about her appearance, which made her feel self-conscious and embarrassed.

Sonovia wanted relief from the pain but didn’t know where to turn. Without dental insurance and facing financial constraints, she felt like she had no options. Thankfully, her physician referred her to the CVHC Dental Clinic, the only fully free dental clinic in Central Alabama. Our dentist, Dr. Amy Swiney, was able to repair Sonovia's chipped front tooth and fill her cavities. When Sonovia shared the story of how Dr. Swiney fixed her teeth, she was moved to tears and expressed how deeply grateful she was for the care she received, telling us that at CVHC, she felt truly cared for. "You can feel the love here," she said, noting how the compassion and kindness of the CVHC team made a world of difference in her experience.

As a mother of two, Sonovia had long put her dental health on the back burner due to financial struggles, wishing she could afford insurance but needing to prioritize her family. At CVHC, we believe no one should have to choose between caring for their family and taking care of their health. We exist to serve people like Sonovia, offering compassionate, life-changing care when they need it most.
